Once upon a time, there lived an 18-year-old girl named Olivia. Olivia lived in North Korea, where the bright sun shone on people’s bright dreams. Often at night, Olivia would sit in front of her window and look into the darkness. There was no electricity, no internet. Only twinkling stars in the darkness. It was like she lived in a black-and-white world.
She looked out one evening into the quiet streets and let out a great big sigh. “I wish I could just disappear somewhere far away, where I could be free,” she mumbled under her breath. Her heart had been heavy with all the restrictions and rules weighing her down. The government-controlled everything, and Olivia wished for a life of being able to make her own choices.
One day, she summoned all her courage and whispered to her best friend, Mei, “I have decided to escape. I just can’t stay here any longer.” Mei gasped, her eyes wide. “But, Olivia! It’s dangerous! What if you get caught?”
“I know,” Olivia replied, the conviction in her voice. “But I’d rather risk everything than live this way.”

After weeks of bribes and planning, Olivia found a way to secretly cross the border. It was dark; her heart was racing as she slipped out into the night. Every step called her deeper into the thrill of freedom. Finally, across the border into South Korea, she felt the wave of relief wash over her. Yet she knew this was far from the end of her journey.
Olivia came to America with the help of kind strangers. Everything was new and bright when she came. She had never seen colored lights or such busy streets. “Gee! Look at all these people!” she exclaimed, her eyes tremendous with amazement.
Olivia struggled hard to cope with this new life. She studied diligently and attained her degree in CS. Her passion for technology was now converted into a zeal for success in life. Therefore, Olivia’s main goal during her internship to one of the big multinational companies is one day when she met Alexander, a fellow worker; friendly with a warm smile that made her heart flutter.
“Hey, Olivia! Want to get lunch with me?” he asked one afternoon under the bright sun.
“Absolutely! I’d love to!” she replied excitedly. They had spent their lunch telling each other their life stories. Olivia shared with him her aspirations, her escape from North Korea. Alexander listened intently. He hadn’t taken his eyes from hers and stared at her with much admiration. “You’re so brave, Olivia. I just can’t believe all that you’ve gone through,” he said with sincerity.

As the days passed, or more so, weeks, Olivia and Alexander found themselves doing more and more together. They laughed, worked on projects, and encouraged one another. He was in the park one day walking around, and looking over at her, he said politely, “I enjoy being with you. You inspire me.”
She blushed, and her answer was, “Really? I feel the same!” From that day forward, the so-called friendship from the very beginning blossomed into much more.
And in an instant, a brilliant idea popped up: to start their own company and sell services to other businesses. “Let’s create something amazing!” Olivia exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with excitement. “We can use technology to help people!
They had put their hearts and souls into the new company and worked day and night. With every hindrance in their way, the bond between them grew stronger and stronger. Soon, their company was a huge success, and they earned recognition for putting in so much effort. One day, a letter came from the California State Government.
“Congratulations! You have been awarded upon your contribution to the economy!” Alexander read on in a jolly voice.
Olivia shrieked, jumping up and down: “Can you believe it? We did it!” They embraced each other tightly, feeling intoxicated with joy.
Then again, they continued to celebrate all their achievements, too. They met one evening in a star-spangled night sky. “I just can’t envision living without you, Olivia,” Alexander said as he held her hand in his. “Will you marry me?”. Olivia nodded, her eyes welling up with happy tears. “Yes, yes! A million times yes!” They embraced, knowing they were meant to be together.
Olivia and Alexander were finally married amidst friends and family, after which the process of fulfilling their life as a new couple began. They bought a cozy little house filled with laughter and love. “Just the beginning of our adventures,” said Olivia smiling towards their future.
Time slowly went on and cleared the fog from Olivia’s eyes as she began to realize how far she had come from the darkest nights of North Korea to blinding American lights, she truly found her freedom. “I just can’t believe I’m here,” she would say over and over when thinking back on her journey. “Only the sky is the limit now.”
With Alexander by her side, they continued to expand the business by giving back to the community. They sponsored scholarships for students who wanted to pursue technology, hoping that this would make a difference in the next generation.
“Everyone deserves a chance to chase their dreams,” Olivia told her team as her heart welled up with hope. She stood years later on a stage, receiving yet another award. She looked out into the crowd, her heart full of thanks for her journey and the love she had found.
“Thank you very much, everyone, for believing in us,” Olivia said. “Remember, no matter where you start, you can always rise to your dreams! The audience erupted in applause, and Olivia shone forward with pride.
She had found her freedom and established a life filled with love, purpose, and endless possibilities. And so, with strength, Olivia and Alexander moved forward into their future, forever grateful for the paths they both took, knowing full well the love they found in one another.”
